An explosion of colours, from the deep green of the coconut fronds to the lighter shades of the rice shoots. Experience Kerala's seasonal rivers, which originate in the Western Ghats relatively close to the sea. Backwaters are intertwined freshwater rivers and canals that flow towards the sea, through a couple of larger lakes that savour the saline taste at times when the sea backs up. Enjoy Kerala backwater holidays in India and get a different experience.

  • Day 1: Cochin

    Arrive in Cochin. Upon arrival in Cochin, you will be meet and transferred to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.
    Overnight in hotel.

  • Day 2: Cochin - Periyar

    Today after breakfast proceeds for the city tour, visit Jewish synagogue, St. Francis church the oldest European church in India and has great historical significance as a mute witness to the European colonial struggle in the subcontinent. The Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama, died in Kochi in 1524 when he was on his third visit to India. His body was originally buried in this church, but after fourteen years his remains were removed and were send to Lisbon. Dutch palace built by the Portuguese and presented to Veera Kerala Varma (1537-65), Raja of Kochi, in 1555 AD. The Dutch carried out some extensions and renovations in the palace in 1663, and thereafter it was popularly called Dutch Palace. Later visit Chinese fishing nets and by noon board a boat for a small backwater cruise. Late afternoon drive to Periyar (5 hours).
    Overnight in Periyar.

  • Day 3: Periyar

    Today after breakfast either visit elephant training camp and spice plantation visit or bamboo rafting (8am to 5pm entry to pay) through the jungles of periyar (a truly thrilling experience) or jeep safari into the Gavi forest (full day programme - entry to pay).
    Overnight in hotel/Camp.

  • Day 4: Periyar - Alleppey

    Today after an early breakfast check out and drive to Alleppey (4 hours) to board the Houseboat.
    Cruise through the most enchanting backwaters in Asia and indulge in fishing.
    Overnight in Houseboat.

  • Day 5: Alleppey

    After breakfast cruise through the backwaters in a different direction and to see the village and country lifestyle of the people and also indulge in fishing and enjoy a ride in canoe.
