Grim history aside, this area of Thailand is rich in culture and natural beauty. The border area with Burma/Myanmar is known for its mountainous charm and is unmatched elsewhere in the country.

Day 1: Bangkok - Kanchanaburi:
We collect you by bus at Hotel Narai or New Road Guest House in Bangkok at approximately 08:45 and then drive to Kanchanaburi (three to four hours). Upon arrival we check in at a local guest house and have lunch. At about 14:00 we board a boat and visit Khao Poon Cave. This excursion includes the war museum, war cemetery and the infamous bridge over River Kwai. Dinner is served at the resort and we get a half hour foot massage. The rest of the evening is set aside for free time. You may want to take a swim or sign up for some optional tours or enjoy different types of massage. Day 2: Erawan National Park:
After breakfast we continue to Erawan National Park, where we soak in the beautiful seven-level waterfall with small lakes on either side. Remember to bring your swimsuit! After lunch in a local shop we'll visit the Hellfire pass, followed by Kra-Sae cave train station, where we board the Death Railway for a 30-minute ride that will take us to the World War II-era bridge. We return to Bangkok at the end of the day; expected arrival time between 19:00 and 20:00. (B, L)
